Ok, Ola has spilled the beans, so l decided to write a few words about a big event that is taking place this very Saturday. Friends of the blog should not be surprised, I did start referring to my muggle girlfriend as fiancée last year, and I’m a serious guy – I proposed with every intention of actually getting married 😉 Now, and it’s still a bit difficult to believe in, it’s going to happen and so very soon!
The pandemic situation in Poland isn’t bad right now, with less than a hundred new cases daily and most restrictions lifted. Everyone who wanted to get vaccinated – had a chance to do so. There are troubles ahead, as we have a lot of anti-vaxxers and Delta variant is already here. Still, we have time enough for our wedding and a short honeymoon on Santorini 🙂
We had our stag/hen nights, and both were glorious, big thanks once again to all the people involved – and some of them are actually reading Re-E occasionally… I got a genuine sword (made recently, but to medieval specs, a heavy, 1.5 hand piece). Perfect gift, something I craved but would never buy myself!
Nobody got hurt so far, but I’m trying to think of a way to use it during the ceremony… maybe I’ll knight the winner of one of the games 😉
Drinking was moderate, and it was a chance for some serious – and funny – discussions on how the life changes, with people we’ve known for, in some cases, decades. Closer to forty than thirty, we’re both among the last to go in our circles of friends, so some hard-earned wisdom was shared with us 😉
Wedding is not as life-changing an event as it used to be, we’ve been living together for some time now, and religion is not involved, it’s something between the two of us – and the state, there are some serious tax benefits… but we both consider it a serious commitment, and a levelling up of our relationship.
Ceremony itself will be simple, we just added some music and poetry to the very short, secular rite. Many non-believers in Poland go for a church wedding, to appease the elders and to get the pomp Catholic church excels at, but more and more of us move beyond that – and we decided that’s the way to go. It will be modest, personal, honest.
And after that – a party for one hundred guests, mid-size for a Polish wedding, with wine, vodka, lots of food and dancing…
Then it’s off to Greece, and I hope we will have a blissful couple of days before reality hits back… Thera might have killed the Minoan civilization, but now it seems to be a perfect Mediterranean holiday spot. We’ll see.
I have to admit all the preparations were yet another reason why my online presence was so limited. It won’t change until after the vacation, but after that I should be able to be slightly more active. I definitely want to 🙂
I called my Kinga a muggle and not without reason. She has multiple great qualities, but isn’t able to really appreciate genre stuff. His Dark Materials TV show she really likes, but I have to watch things like Mandalorian by myself. And my romantic interests always inspired me to read things they liked, so I read a lot of Polish non fiction and that limits the amount of fantasy and sf I can squeeze in. It happened quite naturally and it took me some time to notice. That is a reason why it’s sometimes difficult for me to find a good topic for a post. So, I’m unlikely to ever get back to my old levels of activity, I just need to find a new balance…
Good thing Re-E has Ola, who is keeping pace, thank you for keeping this place alive!
All the best Mate! 🙂

Great post mate. Take as much time as you need before getting back to posting. Good luck with all the stuff that still needs to get sorted out. Great gift you got there and love the shirt, been wondering from which polish metal band I saw that picture as album art

Thanks! Image on a shirt is from a XIX century painting, quite famous in Poland – the Joker depicted there is a historical figure, believed to be a serious guy, worried about political crises more than most courtiers were… he’s a symbol frequently used 🙂

“Omedetou gozaimasu!” Big “congratulations” from Japan! That is wonderful news and I hope you have a suitably spectacular wedding day. It would be great to see some photos of the big event, or that beautiful Greek island, hint hint;-) Best wishes!

A hand and a half sword, also known as a bastard sword. I’d say it fits, hahhahahahahahahah!
Congrats and don’t worry, I think most of us have reset our expectations for you and blogging so whatever balance you end up with is going to please us all 🙂

Thanks! Also, should I feel offended ;)? Anyway, the sword is great, and I always liked this particular type, pretty, powerful and versatile..

Llongyfarchiadau from Wales, and Pob lwc! I hope (but I’m absolutely sure) Saturday goes really well and, especially, pleases the elders—you obviously need their approval! Look forward to when you reappear here after your lovely honeymoon break.

Dziękujemy! It starts well, with a series of small rituals around getting ready for the main thing, we’ll see how it goes from here 🙂

My very best wishes!! Where did the wish to own a sword came from? Polish politics ;)?
We’ve been engaged for over 4 years, but decided to marry when the children are a bit older and can participate a bit more consciously. Anyhow, I hope you’ll have a great time, Santorini looks very cool. (Btw, be sure to check out the 2-player abstract game Santorini, excellent game with lots of depth.)

I was always interested in history, and military history most of all – and I used to know quite a lot about swords. This is my favourite type, even if I move into other areas of interest. It’s very cool to own sth like this!
Thanks, both the wedding and the honeymoon went well, we got a great party and a few days to cool down!
Game looks cool 🙂

It’s difficult to believe that you proposed, or that SHE’S agreed to marry YOU? 😉 Seriously though congratulations!!! I do like the sword. I vote you wear it on your back during the ceremony. And maybe get her one too? His and hers swords?

Thanks! And… I know, right ;)?
Sword did not make it into the ceremony itself, but had a special photo-session, when I get the results, I’ll definitely post them…

Yes, it’s a nice place, our honeymoon lasted only 5 days, but it was blissful, it’s a perfect island to take it easy (and you have to, as the buses tend not to run on schedule…)
