In anticipation of the new season of The Mandalorian, the only thing that stands between Star Wars franchise and a demeaning, protracted death by thousand Reys, here’s my watercolor version of the eponymous character :D.
You can enlarge the image by clicking on it.
Expect the review of the first season soon!

Looks great!

Me too! I actually have an earlier baby Yoda watercolor – here: https://reenchantmentoftheworld.blog/2020/05/04/may-the-4th-be-with-you/ 😀

BWAHAHAHA! “Death by a thousand Reys.” LOVE IT. And your watercolor is beautiful! I’m hoping they put this series on DVDs soon so we can finally watch it. (We have no streaming services. Yes, we’ve somehow lived this long without it.)

Thanks, Jean!
I know I said that the review will come soon, but I can already divulge it’s really, really good! I do hope you’ll be able to watch it soon!
Btw, not sure if this still works, but some of the streaming services used to have this policy of the free first month of viewing… Don’t know if you want to dip your toes in these waters, though! 😉

Noooo, probably not. 🙂 Nice to know, though!

Great painting! I really like the way you’ve depicted the light and shadow on the Madalorian’s figure. I enjoyed the series. It was heavily influenced by the Lone Wolf & Cub manga and film series. At least it looked and felt like Star Wars. Much better than the Sequel Trilogy!

Thank you! 😀
I heard this, Favreau made clear his inspirations, but haven’t encountered this manga yet – have you read/seen it and can you recommend it?
I loved The Mandalorian to bits and dearly hope the second season will be as good as the first!

I haven’t read it, either. But I did read a cool take on the Lone Wolf & Cub story in some early issues of Usagi Yojimbo 🙂 They’re collected in Usagi Book 5.
I also hope Season 2 is a good one!

I’ll check it out! Thanks for the recommendation 😀
Yea, fingers crossed! But since Favreau and Filoni are apparently already working on the story for S04, there’s a fair bit of hope it will actually be coherent and logical 😉

That’s amazing! You are very talented!
And your watercolor reminds me a great deal of the episodes’ scenes shown with the end credits 🙂

Oh, thank you, Maddalena! 😊
That’s a wonderful compliment, I loved those and always watched them to the end! 😄

Neat! Is this based on a still?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Thanks! 😀
Yup. Watercolors are usually based on stills, because you need to apply different colors to different areas and separately apply shades, basically as another layer – and the consecutiveness of the process makes it difficult to maintain the coherence if you don’t have a still to refer to. I changed the colors a bit, though 😉

How about I start throwing some Red Bull/other preferred energy drink brand cans at you?? 😀
LikeLiked by 1 person
That works for me! You can never have too many energy drinks (until you fall over dead from a heart attack from caffeine overdose)
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah… In that case, I might refrain from throwing energy drinks at you – I like reading your posts and comments too much to lose them all over one mighty intercontinental kicking, even if it’s needed 😉

I wouldn’t worry. As a newly appointed Master of Ironing, I have strong connections all over the Ironing world. No country is out of our reach. We’ll get Pio(treK) eventually, we always do.

No worries! I’ve been called Sir or Mr. so many times that one more or less doesn’t really matter – and besides, I really don’t mind 😉 I know it’s my avatar’s fault, but I like Sam Vimes too much to just replace his craggy face 🤣

Oh, that’s sweet of you! I’ve no idea, frankly, never considered it… Lemme think about how I could do it first – definitely not by post, they charge and arm and a leg to send anything to and from NZ… 🙂

Holy sh*t!!!! I love it! I’m completely enamoured by your watercolour skills. I have no idea how you guys dose the water in your brushes to achieve such precise gradations and so much control on how the colour flows too. Thanks for sharing this! I can’t wait for season 2 in around 2 weeks, and even more your review! 😀

Many thanks, Lashaan! 😊
I use watercolor pans, not tubes, which gives me more control over the hues and mixing, and a water brush that allows for a precise measurement of water and paint :).
Yeah, I can’t wait for that review too – Piotrek’s vacationing on Cyprus, though, so we’ll see when we’ll finish it! 🤣

Very nice post Ola. We also loved season 1, looking forward to season 2, dont know what happened, but the guy who plays him apparently walked of the set… still i believe thats a minor issue as he never revealed his face. Looking forward to your review🙂

Great to see you out and about! Hope the situation with the zoo and the virus isn’t affecting you too much!
Oh, I didn’t know that! Must check it out, then… When I watched the new trailer I thought Mando spoke in the same voice as in the previous season, but you’re right – it’s not like we see his face too often! 🤣

I took 10 days off to prepare fore an exam which i am afraid i am going to fail tomorrow… In between that we are now in a 4 week partial lockdown again as corona has been making the rounds again

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! Is it the driving license or something else?
Man, you both hang in there! I hope it’ll take a turn for the better soon!

Its the learner’s license yeah. Ive been driving from the age of 18 in SA but my license does not count in europe, so have to do everything over. The dutch just have exesively more rules and regulations regarding safety and on top of that shitty ways of asking questions. Will see how it goes. Just want to get it over with really.

I know your pain; I drive since I was 17 and in NZ I had to pass the exams again – I’m past the theoretical one, but every time I try to set up the practical NZ goes into covid-related lockdown 😅
Good luck, Dave! 🤞

Lovely! Watercolours are a mystery to me. I enjoyed reading your attempt to de-mystify them, and make it seem like a matter of managing technical details, which only served to make them seem more mystifying to me.

It does feel like there’s a fair bit of alchemy in the process! 😉 The professional paints are still being made from rare minerals and gems, like lapis lazuli and so forth…

What a beautiful painting, Ola. I love the feeling of movement you’ve given the Madalorian, as well as that sky. I’m intrigued.
