Seems like we hit a run of non-review posts recently… Don’t worry, the reviews will come back soon, but before – another non-review, maintenance post. This one will probably end up as hectic as my lifs recently, so bear with me here π
First, I wanted to explain my recent reticence, owed to the fact that I involuntarily caused a Tea Party for my laptop, and it ended up being a mashup of the craziness of the above Mad Hatter and March Hare party with the ferociousness of the below Boston party:
Sadly, my laptop did not emerge unscathed; while his critical components were saved through the valiant efforts of my wonderful husband, it still required a new keyboard and a new screen… Seems like the act of acquiring a new laptop in the near future is becoming inevitable – however, I don’t anticipate it with anything but dread, as, firstly, the amount of data I gathered on my current laptop is staggering and I don’t look forward to going through the task of cataloguing it and copying it; and secondly, my faithful Samsung served me exceptionally well over the years: through another Tea Party, a fall from a table, a bug in the hard drive (a real one, quite dried up by the time we found it) and the still unsolved mystery of three Wolverine-like scratches. Admittedly, it had to be a really tiny Wolverine:
Yes; as you can see, I’m quite fond of my laptop and everything it contains (well, except that bug). Anyway, it took some time to get up and blogging again, and I’ll be trying to make up for my absence in the coming weeks (though don’t count too much on it, as we’re having a house move in a couple of weeks ;)).
On a more happy note, however, as a part of the celebration of the four year anniversary of our blog, we’ve decided to follow the example of Erik on the Past Due blog and dig up some of our old posts, posted long before the time we knew any of ya’ll π You can expect some of our older reviews popping up from time to time, followed (or not) by a few words of contemporary commentary of the author and some acid remarks of the other blogger π
We expect it to run every couple of weeks/month, and since we already have over 330 posts, we’ll have quite a lot to choose from… I actually wonder how those older posts will hold up to our current scrutiny; how much our tastes changed over that period of time and whether will uphold our old ratings – guess we’ll see soon enough! π Hopefully it will be less like this:
and more like this:
π
Go America! Tea Party’ing since 1773!
*does dance club moves*
*and promptly trips and falls on face*
Whooo, a chibi wolverine! I just made a lateral move on laptops this year and cannibalized one to help boost up the other. I figure if I can get another year out of it I’ll be lucky. So good luck! I had to buy a special piece of hardware to turn the old harddrive into an external one so I could copy the whole thing onto the “new” one. Gave me the time to sort everything out π
Good luck with the house move! Is it a big move or a little one?

LOL! π
Yeah, it sounds like a good investment of time – it’s just I don’t have that much to invest right now π And I’m loath to copy everything, as I have a lot there… Going through all those geological layers would drive me crazy π But I keep most of the important stuff in several places at once, so at least I was able to work even with laptop down (thank goodness for clouds ;))
Thanks!
It’s a small-ish one, thankfully – just a few clicks, but it’ll be a second one in a year. Hopefully the last one in the forseeable future! π

You got me shuddering there. I’m making copies of my essential stuff once a week to a pen drive, but shudder at the idea of a laptop crash. My wife is a photographer and her stuff takes like a zillion bites. She works like with three laptops, but there is always something that is on one that isn’t on the others. And then crashes occur … sigh. Pouf! Weeks of work vaporized.

Yes, I’ve been there – even though I’m not a photographer π My laptop was stolen, long ago, when I didn’t backup all important stuff on external discs or in the cloud. It was a very painful experience, but now I’m more prepared π

A real bug π oh gosh, that poor laptop!
I understand your feelings though.. you get attached, especially when it’s been working so well.
I still have ‘new laptop’ on my wishlist, as I don’t like using the computer all the time and our work laptop is super slow and annoying π
One day… π
Hope all goes well with your move – that’s exciting! But also lots of stress, I’m still recovering π

Yeah, laptop buying is not a thing you want to rush into! π
Oh, yeah, I remember your posts re move! I could relate, especially to your Internet troubles – even though we’re in the middle fo Auckland, the companies providing services sometimes seem to be on a different planet π
Hope you’re getting used to your little farm – it looks lovely! Though I confess I felt sorry for the duck… Hope you’ll recover soon! π

Your laptop sounds like a veteran of many harsh battles! No wonder that it’s sporting a few scars as well… π

Yes! It’s actually very accurate, my veteran laptop should get some computer military award for its dedication to service π I might prepare something out of a potato π

Oi, it’s not that bad, nostalgia posts count as reviews, so the ratio is quite ok π
I really like the idea of re-posts, and I’ll try to add a few new lines to each one!
Sorry about the laptop, move even more stuff to the cloud and find yourself a nice new machine π

Oh, I think it’s mostly because I got really attached to my laptop – it’s been with me through thick and thin, after all π I don’t even like to change smartphones due to the hassle with data – so with laptop it will be several times worse, I imagine π
Nostalgia posts do count as reviews, that’s right! π

LOL. π I want chibi-Wolverine scratches on my laptop now!!
Glad to hear you’re OK, and your absence is *only* due to laptop ill-health and not anything else.
I hear you about your laptop love. Mine is fairly new, only two years old, but I love it so so much. Not so much because of what it has on it as I back up regularly to an external hard-drive, but simply because it is a slim, lightweight and beautiful piece of equipment that is a delight to use, and enables me to do something I love to do. It’s also decorated with stickers. π

Thanks! I’m glad it’s just this, frankly, and I’m super glad that the laptop still works!
I did get attached to my laptop through the years – I spend so much time with it, and it’s a wonderfully designed and created piece of equipment, so I totally understand your love π
What kind of stickers?? π

All silly stickers – crocodile, little sunny smiley face, chibi character carrying books on it’s head and dropping them behind. Another chibi character reading. π

It has always made me laugh to hear people talk about an actual bug in their electronic devices that causes their system to die. I actually think the whole term of a “bug” in your computer was after a similar incident of a real bug too hahah
I do hope your transfer of data will be effortless and that you won’t struggle too much in loving your soon-to-be new laptop/computer.
I look forward to discovering your older posts too. I’ve always wondered if I should ever try and bring back my first posts back to life too but my fear of cringing at what I had to say back in the day has me avoiding it all hahah
And happy bloggiversary! Soo… how many years exactly? 5? 10? 15?

Imagine my surprise! π It was dead and all dried up, and I think it only started interfering with my laptop’s once the tea I spilled made it all swollen π
I’m holding out on a new laptop as long as I can… This one still works, and with a move ahead I don’t even want to start the search for a new one! But rest assured, once I choose a new one, it will be glorious π
Thanks! We’ve decided to bring back some of the old ones mainly because we feel they mostly reflect our current views as well – and if not, that will be a lot of fun to bash them! π I’d actually love to see one of your older posts and see what you’d say about it today as well π
Thank you! Ooh, not that many! 4, actually π But it feels much longer already ππ

This is why we Englishmen revere tea so much. It is godly. It can giveth and, as you have discovered, it can taketh.

Though, to be perfectly honest, if you Englishmen really revered tea, you wouldn’t pollute it with milk! π

My man! π
Frankly, that was an accident waiting to happen – I could count my tea consumption in litres per day when I work, black, green, white and/or fruit…
Any type of tea you particularly like?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I love Lady Grey, Early Grey, Darjeeling … most any kind of black tea. Prefer the smells of fruity than the taste. We have free tea and coffee at work π

So, a fellow tea-by-the-litres drinker! π The three you mentioned are also my favourite black tea types – careful, green tea is just one step away from Darjeeling! π

I’m not a huge green tea fan π¦ yea, I live on a liquid diet at work of tea … and one coffee first thing in the morning haha

I try to limit my coffee to weekends, as an early morning treat π But tea goes all the time!
I haven’t been a fan of green tea for a long time, it’s an acquired taste, granted – but I drink loads of it now and enjoy it very much π Works great as a sub for coffee π

I only have coffee first thing in the morning at work. I only tend to sleep 4 hours or so a night. So I need it π

Ouch! I can’t do without at least 7 hrs of sleep or my teeth grow long and I become a menacing cross of vampire and zombie… How can you even function without a constant tea IV drip? π

According to science certain people can thrive on as little as 4 hours. I must be one π

Oh wow, sorry about the laptop -_- My laptop just suddenly and mysteriously stopped working at the beginning January and has been out of commission since! I gave it to my genius of a brother-in-law who has a PhD in computer science, and he miraculously managed to bring it back to life. But he lives across the country from me, so I only got it back this week! I’ve been blogging from my work computer βΒ I’m so grateful to have my baby back π
I’m excited to read your old posts! π

Fortunately, mine works now as well and I hope it will work a while longer π Wow, I’m sure it’s great to have a brother-in-law with a PhD in computer science, even one living so far away! π
Thanks a lot! π

My faithful machine keeps working, though I do believe its days are counted – maybe not in the nearest future, but it’s still something I will have to come to terms with π Mortality of one’s laptop is not a thing one usually considers on daily basis π
